Meet Easton Greene, an Eisenhower and YV-Tech student whose foundation is rooted in perseverance.
For Easton Greene, academic inspiration begins and ends with family. A senior at Eisenhower and YV-Tech, he credits his parents for helping him excel academically.
“My parents have kind of pushed me through everything and reminded me that when times get hard, the easiest thing to do is quit. But what’s most important is to be able to persevere through your challenges and struggles,” he said. “They also set a good example for me of the importance of education and how that sets me up for a successful future.”
But part of his motivation, he acknowledges, comes from a genuine enjoyment of school. When he likes going to school, it’s easier to commit to it.
“A lot of it is trying to make the best out of where you are.”
Despite excelling in math, the subject Easton derives the most enjoyment from is his auto tech class, learning hands-on about how engines and cars function.
The consistent support throughout school is something that Easton has greatly appreciated. As a Native American student, there was a staff member who would check in with him in middle school. Having this extra layer of support because of his heritage made school feel more welcoming, knowing not just that there was someone to talk to, but also having that individual seek him out so that he knew she was there for him.
As for what the future holds, Easton is still figuring out the details.
“I feel like most kids have a world of options out there. I didn’t know what I wanted to do or what I wanted for myself for the future.”
But one thing is for sure - he has his long-term goal set.
“As this year has gone by, I just have gotten a lot closer to my family and I’ve learned the importance of my family in my life and I think that one of my end goals is to be a father and raise a family and be a good example for my kids and inspire them.”
Until then? Easton is ready to live in the moment, taking his motto to heart: “Make where you’re at the place to be.”
